Omg flash flood on Dunearn Rd today :D
Surface overland flow as precipitation rate > infiltration capacity due to impermeability of surfaces in urbanised areas (e.g. Bukit Timah)
exciting shit

Jasmine: eh lucky we left at 3pm peak flow was at 1 :D

SMB message regarding the potential recurrence of flood events:
"If at CORONATION AREA on a bus, please get off and walk over to the school. Unless, you are in danger of being washed away by the flood."

How silly we are to wax lyrical about the dangers of global warming when we've practically contributed to HALF OF THE WORLD'S DEFORESTATION AHHHHH

/hysterical

just imagine, this stack x however many hwachong H2 math students there are this year :oooo
okay lah maybe a little less, i have a ton of remedial shit in here

and, well, math is over. \o/
telling myself i was going to burn all my notes after the papers was a source of motivation for me, but now i can't bring myself to do it. emotional attachment! my blood and sweat, tears and U-graded assignments! (the a level paper is probably the first and only math exam i will pass (i'm crossing my fingers!) in the past two years.)

wow and i realised i am damn ocd; the stack is organised by topic, and split into tutorials, assignments, and class tests within topics. the class tests are organised chronologically and stapled to the back of the tutorial question section where relevant. misc remedial/holiday work/extra questions at the back, chronologically ordered and colour-coded according to difficulty 8D

somebody shoot me i should be starting on econs nergggg

Let me start by saying that it's been a damn long time since I last watched anime of any kind. The quality sucks, and it kind of grates on my nerves a lot. Not to mention the whole filler episode system most animes have going. It gets really, really dull. BUT as I was surfing around looking for good material for my Japanese oral script and stuff, I found this lovely series that... well.. it's really good! *fail*

So I am posting the link here, because everyone should watch it instead of mugging. Yep.
Alternatively, you can tell yourself you are mugging for GP, Science and Technology. That works too.

It's called Time of Eve, and, well, suspicious Japlish aside, it's an interesting series about the whole what-makes-humans-humans conumdrum. In a futuristic (Japanese?) society, androids serve humans as superefficient servants/appliances. However their learning mechanisms are so advanced that humans start to imbue them with human qualities, thus sparking off furious debate about what blurs the line between human minds, and those of machines. Android love, for example, is a recurring theme. Is it love if one or both parties are but fashioned after humans?

"The series also makes frequent allusion to Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics, often highlighting surprising interpretations of those laws, some of which form apparent loopholes. The overarching plot involves the beginnings of independence displayed by the androids, what they do with that independence within the bounds of the three laws, and what motivates them. Secondary plots involve the individual stories of each android the protagonists encounter in the cafe, and how they come to discover which patrons are androids and which are not." (Wikipedia-ed.)

The brilliant animation is another reason to watch it. It takes conventional 2D animation and combines it with 3D-animated background, with painstaking detail paid to movement and light.

It's not very action-packed, though, unless you count one very hyperactive kid. Watch itttt :D

Okay back to work back to work...

I was typing out some introspective emo stuff but then deleted it by accident. Must have been the forces of the Universe at work. Or maybe just my finger. In it's place, have a this-is-what-I-did-today update:

Went to watch Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with family today. It was pretty good (in an action-packed, questionable-plot kind of way) plus Megan Fox was hot, etc. (I swear, the fanservice...... ) I totally recommend it, especially because you get a glimpse of alien robot heaven. No kidding! One takeaway from movie: how do alien robots reproduce? The world is full of amazing things

So this guy was arrested for streaking in public.

(I was totally going to put a picture or video here but apparently they don't let people do that. Naked japanese pop star pictures are too valuable a commodity.)

The fuss they're making over the entire thing is kind of amusing - the fact that the Japanese economy is pretty much sunken under is apparently not as important??! The poor guy got the front page for hanging around in his birthday suit, not to mention the fact that his career is probably ruined, and everything. On the other hand, maybe their eagerness to splash this all over the front page is their way of  keeping the economics issue quietly out of sight...

Uhh - in case you're wondering, I don't really feel very strongly about human rights for drunken pop stars. Kind of bored, and wanted to update.

Am thinking of baking tomorrow if I finish econs...... which means I probably won't make it in time........ oh well.

Hi guys I have gotten myself a macbook.

In the short space of time between getting it and making this post, I (or someone else, for I still desperately cling onto the hope that it wasn't me) have scratched my poor baby omg SOMEBODY KILL ME NOW

It is huge, it is ugly, and every time I see it it kills me more inside! I am not exaggerating about its size; it is at least 2 cm long and very very obvious.

Shit shittt i need a laptop case/bag/anything.

No emoticon can sufficiently carry the weight of my heart pain arghhh

^Cake that I have been thinking of making but have not gotten the time to

I love rainy days. It's cozy in my room when the lights are warm and dark and the rain is crashing around outside, sequestering me in my little space. I can't hear anything but me; the rain slices through it all, cold and clean. Thunder rolls around the ceiling, prowling, rumbling, casting riffled shadows in my mind.

Stuff that happened; rant about skincare. )

We watched Benjamin Button after that, me and mai family.
It was very good, especially the makeup. Watching a 20-year old Brad Pitt was worth it. He is srsly cute can.
It made me think quite a bit about love and, you know, what it would be like to have a kid/be a kid that grows young. I just spent 10 minutes trying to elaborate but I failed, so nevermind. Too complicated for my plebeian brain to put into words.

Honestly speaking though, if I saw newly-born Benjamin, I probably wouldn't want to touch it. That makes me feel mean :c He looked like Yoda, but not green, and sort of conpressed. Eugh! >_<

Oh well that was kind of sombre. Everyone should go play Electric Box at Kongregate!

Wow we are like running headlong into blocks already has it been one term already???

After thinking about this for a while though I realise that H2 Japanese will probably, ironically enough, be my greatest worry by the As. It's not something you can mug last-minute, or even last-week, for. Unlike math, it isn't something I'm consistently bad at; so I won't constantly be trying to work at it. It will probably creep up from behind me and by the time I realise what's happening it'll be far too late. And I guess I've known for a while already that I haven't enthusiastically!!! studied for a Japanese test since... Sec 3? 4? Regret!! Regret regret regret eats away at me. I hate that I've let myself become mediocre at it. It doesn't come as easily to me anymore.

THE POINT IS, I have to mitigate!!!
1. Actively watch Jdramas WITHOUT SUBS (don't laugh, it works for [info]prancingsheep  and she is da QUEEN of listening comprehension). And arashi.
2. Read the news... but IN JAPANESE. Urgh this is going to suck, I know it already.
3. DO MY HOMEWORK.
4. Translate 夢をかなえるゾウ and post it on my LJ! Use it to increase word bank.

Okay there you go, the point of my entire post. It's a book [info]megaton_souffle  got for me from Japan as a gift, and it is mega long and I will probably never finish it but it looks interesting, and is just about the right level. Besides, it sold 1.5 million copies at the time of printing, so it can't possibly be that bad! c:

Without further ado, I give you the first three pages of

The Elephant Who Could Make Dreams Come True )

Enjoy! c&c would be appreciated, et cetera.
I tried to stay true to the text as much as possible, but there are places where I added in a word or two.
Also, in case you're wondering, Ganesha is speaking in Kansai ben. I tried to find a substitute for that , but it sounds a little unnatural....

Yeah my dad is finally caving in : ) He says i can start looking for one because "it is time".

I know like half my flist have their own laptops, so could you guys prz lend me your experience in laptop owning and give me your opinion on what kind you think is good value-for-money? I only require that it can (a) surf the internet, (b) run photoshop without lagging badly, (c) look pretty. The last is kind of =_= but hey it's important okay!!

In general it will be replacing my desktop, so it has to have sufficient space and memory to stand on its own. I have an external hard drive though so it's not like i need 115138756193841 GB of space or anything, just enough that it won't crash if i download and store a few files.

Sorry if this is nooby : ( I don't know much about laptops... or computers. Other than how to torrent illegally.

1. I just got my hair cut yesterday, along with my mummy and sister. It kind of makes me look like a cliche artsy-nerdy sort, especially with my glasses. I like <3

*feels damn hip* 8D

Aiyah basically it's a really short bob. For details you can look for me tomorrow and ogle at my coolness!

...then again, my hair has always been kind of ...unorthodox. If you say anything other than MELO I THINK YOUR HAIR ROCKS IT'S SO COOL i'll cut your hair myself 8D MUHAHAHAHA.

2. I need new year clothes soon oh noooo.
Went shopping with sis and mum on said haircut day, but was unable to find anything i liked. I suspect it's partly, you know, shopping with your mum and sis. I DUNNO my mum just likes the most obiang clothes ever and my sister doesn't have an opinion it makes me not want to shop very much :c

MMMF.

Yes nikki let's go :D but i'm not sure if i'll be free friday 'cause if last year, and the year before that was any indication, we'll be spending most of friday doing last-minute spring cleaning. Also JURONG POINT IS DAMN FAR ;A; it better be good...................

3. HOMEWORK homework you are the bane of my life.
How is anyone supposed to get CNY shopping done when you can feel it piling up and weighing you down? I swear it's watching me >_>.

Oh and hay shion if you see this, I just realised friday got no third lang so svensoons = ?? :c
Haha maybe the next third-lang-friday?

4. HISTORY BULLETIN IS ALMOST DONE YES

5. Here's something nice for you to look at c: [info]prancingsheep  was the one who first gave me the link i think.
Couldn't copy the image, so you get a link. I really like some of the pieces there - i usually don't like clean and vectory much, but this guy's got style <3 uh haha okay lah maybe it's just the neon-ness that attracts me. E.g. i like the Claro mp3 one, and i don't like the brastemp one.

Okay will go back to math now start doing math now.

Am happy to finally be doing it, but I mean, seriously, seven questions?????????

Another thing: has anyone else (from A10 GP class) seen Mr Ho's email?

Will he notice if I only do the first part of every Issues & Ideas??

O MAI so many things have happened in the past few weeks where do i start?? :B

[1] 410 Christmas Party/Gathering/Gloria's New-House-Warming Party
It was awesome. HAHA people who didn't come! >D
We ate up all the food lots of food and talked a lot of crap. Bitching ensued. Presents were exchanged. Lame jokes brought up. Poked fun at sala and her gangsta shirt (LOL). Poked Calaen (sp??) and his arm/face/leg rolls.

[2] Did not mail [info]megaton_souffle 's (very belated) birthday present, but you knew that already.

[3]
okay i can't remember but I'm pretty sure lots more stuff happened. [/short-term memory]
Involving the person mentioned above,[info]miharakiri ,[info]interpunct , the flea market, cookies, ikea, a projector, &etc.
Refer to their blogs for greater detail.

These past few days i've been trying to tidy up my room (like everyone else in the world, i know.). Eight years of stuff (has it really been so long since Primary 3?), i have so much of it. I tried to dig deeper and uncovered all sorts of things, bits from the years i've shed, things i thought i'd never remember. I really like how my room's mine, you know, how it grew around me, grows with me; each year adds a layer of me-ness 'cause I never throw anything away. But each year i have more things and a little less room, and i worry that all that me will crowd myself to death. Does that makes sense to you?

How do people throw things away, anyway?

Found today: A bit of ribbon from the VK costume i thought i'd lost, a book [The Four Great Beauties of China] borrowed and never returned to Rosyth, notes, detailing the kind of clothing shops i visited (though i was lying, i didn't want to say my mum bought my clothes for me still), passed to my not-quite girl friends in class in P6, a copy of Advanced Level Physics, by Nelkon and Parker [whot??] prolly my dad's. A box of letters, from Justina Nai, the Best Friend, circa 1998. I don't know where she is now.

Zillions of files and textbooks and worksheets and things i wrote in and scribbled in, slept and doodled on in class, covered in dust, stuffed under my bed after EOYs (ran out of space.)

Dead wasp i trapped in a hole in my shelf with blu-tac. It's still kind of there.

Lots of dust.

EDIT:
Latest news:  I have organised my vanity (well, sort of) by colour. lul. Spot the xmas presents!!  :3
